Intuit will be offering its QuickBooks Desktop products as subscription-only beginning with the 2022 releases. Find out what this means for your business below.
All of the QuickBooks Desktop products other than QuickBooks Accountant will no longer be available via one-time payment coming soon. These QuickBooks Desktop products include QuickBooks Pro, QuickBooks Premier, and QuickBooks Enterprise. QuickBooks Enterprise was already converted to a subscription product two years ago, so this was the inevitable outcome for all Desktop offerings.
What's This Mean for my Business?
Previously for the 2021 releases and before you could just pay for one-time purchase licenses. This would be a single fee to buy the program. You would then download it and have permanent access. For the 2021 releases you will still receive updates from Intuit at no additional charge through May 2024.
The one-time purchase licenses would allow you to create multiple company files at no additional cost which was especially cost effective if you run more than one business. However, the subscription plan will most likely have an additional fee for each company that you set up similar to QuickBooks Online's pricing model.
Subscription means a monthly or annual payment will be required for continued use of the product. If you choose to stop paying you will most likely lose all access to the product and your data.
